How to convert a YouTube video to MP4
Five steps, about a minute end to end. This walks through the YouTube to MP4 converter and the MP3 version, explains what each quality option actually means, and decodes every message the tool can show you.
The five steps

Copy the link of a video you are allowed to download
Open the video, then copy its URL from the address bar or the Share button.
- On desktop, the address bar link works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=…
- On mobile, tap Share → Copy link. A youtu.be/… short link is fine.
- Shorts, live replays and embedded links all work — they resolve to the same video.
- Only use videos you uploaded, that are under a permissive licence, or that the rights holder has cleared for offline use.

Paste the URL into the converter
Paste the link into the Video URL field. The converter checks it and lists what the source actually offers.
- Use the Paste button to pull the link straight from your clipboard.
- Checking usually takes a second or two — you will see the video title, channel and length appear.
- If the link is wrong or the video is private, you get a plain message saying so instead of a broken download.

Choose MP4 or MP3
MP4 keeps the video. MP3 keeps only the audio track. Switch with the Format control — your URL stays put.
- MP4 is the safe default: it plays on virtually every phone, computer, TV and editor.
- MP3 is for when you only need the sound — a talk, a lecture, a podcast episode you produced.
- Switching format does not re-check the link, so it is instant.

Pick a quality
Only the qualities the source really provides are shown. 720p is selected by default as a sensible balance.
- 360p and 480p make small files, useful on a slow connection or a tight data plan.
- 720p and 1080p are the everyday choices — sharp on a phone or laptop without huge files.
- 1440p and 2160p (4K) appear only if the original was uploaded that way, and produce much larger files.
- A greyed-out or missing option means the source does not offer it — no setting on our end will unlock it.

Convert and download
Click Convert. When the progress bar finishes, click Download to save the file.
- Most files are ready in under a minute; larger 4K files take longer.
- You can leave the tab open — progress is read from the server, not guessed by a timer.
- The download link is single-use and expires after 30 minutes, then the temporary file is deleted.

What each message means
The converter shows a small, fixed set of messages. Each one tells you something specific — here is what to do about it.

| “Please enter a valid URL.” | What you pasted is not a usable link — usually a stray word, a truncated copy, or a search result rather than a video page. | Re-copy the link from the address bar or the Share button and paste it again. |
| “This source cannot be processed.” | The link is well-formed but points somewhere we do not support. | Use a youtube.com or youtu.be video link. Playlists, channels and other sites are not supported. |
| “This video is not available.” | The video was removed, made private, or is region-restricted at the source. | Check the link opens in a normal browser tab first. |
| “This video requires authorization.” | The video is private, unlisted-with-restrictions, or members-only. | There is no workaround — this is deliberate. Use content you own or have permission for. |
| “Conversion failed. Please try again.” | The processing provider timed out, or the file exceeded the size or duration limit. | Try a lower quality, or a shorter video. If it keeps failing, wait a few minutes and retry. |
| “Too many requests. Please wait a moment.” | You hit the per-IP rate limit, which protects the service from bulk automation. | Wait a few minutes and try again. Bulk or automated use is not permitted. |
Common questions
On a computer it lands in your browser’s downloads folder. On iPhone and iPad it goes to the Files app; on Android it goes to Downloads. Nothing needs to be installed on any platform.
